THE DIVERSE NATURE OF OUR WORK

IN OVER 1,500 ONGOING PROJECTS, GIZ AND ITS PARTNERS ARE WORKING TO MAKE DEVELOPMENT SUCCEED.

More than 200 commissioning parties put their trust in us. The German Government – with the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as the main commissioning party – European Union institutions, the United Nations, the private sector and governments of other countries all benefit from our services. We work with businesses, civil society actors and research institutions in over 120 countries, covering a wide variety of thematic areas, from rural development, economic development, employment promotion, education and good governance to sustainable infrastructure. EXTRA LESSONS FOR DISADVANTAGED GIRLS IN GUINEA

Completing school is not something Aïssatou Cissoko takes for granted. In Guinea, just half of all girls attending school make it past year 6. Some 11,000 girls have already benefited from the supplemental teaching programme for socially disadvantaged girls provided by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and have gone on to obtain a higher level of education.

FUTURE FOR THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES

Conflicts and crises make life very difficult in the Palestinian territories. And the lack of medical care only aggravates the situation. On behalf of the German Federal Foreign Office, GIZ has built and equipped an outpatient clinic to treat the 6,000 inhabitants of the community of Jiftlik and people from the surrounding villages on the West Bank near Jericho. As a result, health services have resumed, and children and expectant mothers are now being treated by doctors like Jamal Mustafa Abu Salim.

SUSTAINABLE COCOA PRODUCTION IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE

In Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s largest producer of cocoa, many people earn a living from the cocoa harvest. To improve living conditions for farmers and sustainably increase cultivation and crop quality, GIZ has been advising food retailer LIDL since 2012. One outcome of this collaboration is the PROCACAO agricultural school, which, as an established training centre, has earned international acclaim for its tailored training services. Some 2,000 trainers have already completed the training and are now passing on their knowledge to cocoa farmers. More than 18,000 cocoa farmers are expected to benefit from the agricultural school in the coming years.

BLOGGING FOR MORE CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN TUNISIA

Haythem Abidi’s motto is ‘blogging for citizens’. In order to also give a voice to those in Tunisia’s remote regions, he has made it his mission to train up young people to join the blogging community. In Bondy Blog, the amateur journalists can post articles about their city and provide locals with information, thereby engaging in social debate. Commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office, GIZ is thus helping to strengthen democracy in communities and cities in the south of Tunisia.
