Sustainable development is our guiding principle and our core business. We operate as a federal enterprise on behalf of the German Government, as well as other public and private clients, to facilitate sustainable development results together with our partners around the world.
GIZ is strategically aligned with objectives of sustainable development. With our partners we come up with solutions that respect the limits of our planet. Together we aim to achieve greater justice, political participation and economic capability. This often involves conflicting goals and interests, which have to be resolved fairly among all stakeholders. In this setting we perform various roles, acting as:
- mediator,
- advisor
- and implementer.
The high aspirations we attach to our services are reflected in the rewording of our new vision in 2016:

Together with our commissioning parties and partners we work to bring about sustainable development for all. Before and during project implementation we advise the German Government and governments in partner countries. Together we identify sustainable and effective responses to the challenges of a globalised world. We see ourselves as a provider of advisory and other services to political decision-makers, whose vision of a future worth living we share. We work with them to make sustainable development possible.
